    FAQ's

What pressure can lateral pipe, LDPE pipe and MDPE pipe handle?

Lateral pipe tends to also be a type of LDPE pipe, but this can differ from different suppliers, so it is important to check with the manufacturer.

LDPE pipes have a standardised pressure rating of 2.5 to 5 bar, and MDPE pipes have a standardised pressure rating of 6 to 10 bar.

What is the difference between Lateral pipe, LDPE and MDPE pipe?

Lateral pipe simply refers to the pipes which consumers would use in their gardens or backyards as the "final piping" for your irrigation system. LDPE and MDPE on the other hand are specific types of material, determined by their density, thus the names Low Density Polyethylene and Medium Density Polyethylene.

For most backyard and residential applications, a Lateral pipe will suffice. However, for systems with drip or many sprinklers, then LDPE may be required. For more commercial applications MDPE or even HDPE may be required.

What kinds of lateral pipe fittings are there?

Barbed Connectors: The workhorses of lateral lines. These grip the pipe with barbs on one or both ends, for easy connections without glue or clamps. They come in various shapes like elbows, tees, and crosses to create different configurations in your irrigation system.

Couplings: Similar to barbed connectors, but specifically for connecting two straight pieces of lateral pipe. They have barbs on both ends for a secure grip.

End Plugs: Simple stoppers to terminate the end of a lateral line.

Dripline Connectors: The bridge between lateral lines and drip irrigation. These specialized connectors might have a barbed end for the lateral pipe and a connection point for the dripline on the other end.

Shut-off Valves: Allow you to isolate sections of your lateral lines for maintenance. These valves may use barbs or threaded connections depending on the type, and come with shutoff functionality to stop water flow in specific sections.
